Finding Miss Style in the City

Channel M's Jemma Gofton
25/ 6/2008

I HAD the huge honour of finding a Miss Style In The City last week and my goodness what a mammoth task.

I particularly wanted a good-looking girl who would represent Style In The City well.

Our programme is aboutstyle, sophistication, confidence and approachability so our winning girl had to show all those traits. Good looks alone weren't going to win this competition.

I was joined on the judging panel by former Miss Manchester Louise Cliffe and Miss Manchester organiser Angela De Fouw, so thankfully it wasn't a decision I had to make alone.

It was a tough choicebut our winner was Rachel Johnson from Middleton. She stood out for many reasons, gorgeous, down to earth and a genuine smile on her face to name but a few. Her prize was to join in the Lipsyfashion show that very evening.

Deep end

Rachel was thrown in at the deep end and was partnered with the current Miss Manchester but I am proud to say she held her own. She was the star of the show and strutted down the runway like a pro. You can see her debut on Style In The City tonight at 8pm.

Also on tonight's show you can catch an interview I got to do with the founder of Space NK, Nicky Kinnaird. To say I was in awe is an understatement. This is the woman who has created a shop that to me is better than any shoe shop. Nicky let me in on the latest beauty must-haves and the best way to hold back the years.

If you are my friend Emma Blackburn then do not read this final paragraph otherwise you will ruin your weekend surprises.

Panic time! I am off to Spain for a hen party and for once it's not the thought of revealing my wobbly, pale torso on the beach that's giving me sleepless nights. Oh no, it's the pressure of what I cover my body up with.

You probably think that's slightly odd but the brief for the weekend has just been sent through to me and - shock horror - it's 80's fancy dress. Now don't get me wrong I love fancy dress and as I have mentioned before I am still living in the 80's but the thought of doing it surrounded by millionaires and their yachts sends me into a spin.

I had visions of me strutting along the port turning heads and being inundated with offers of Champagne. I don't suppose that will work as well in a Frankie says relax T-shirt. Never mind the 80's wasn't a decade known for it's understated style so if you can't beat them join them. It's fingerless gloves all the way for me!!
