St John Ambulance is preparing to open a new cadet unit in the town.

The charity is responding to popular demand by holding three taster session on February 8, 15 and 22 at 23 High Street, Macclesfield, from 6.30pm – 7.45pm.

The unit is for young people aged 10 to 18.

Cadets meet weekly to get involved in a challenging and varied programme that includes: providing first aid cover at public events; learning leadership and public speaking skills through teaching first aid to others; taking part in weekend residential camps and having the opportunity to compete in international first aid competitions.

Adults also interested in finding out more about volunteering are welcome to come along to the taster sessions and meet the team.

Kerrie Gleave, district youth leader, said: “We are really excited to be opening the unit in Macclesfield. I was a cadet for seven years and have been a leader for eight. Having seen loads of cadets benefit from the SJA programme, I would encourage young people and adults to seriously consider being part of cadets, it offers a fresh break from the daily routine and is truly worthwhile.”
