A funday is set to help raise funds for a severely disabled tot who has been in hospital for more than nine months.

Two-year-old Alfie Cairney was left with disabilities after contracting E.coli last July, and his family has been told by doctors that his kidneys will never function properly again.

Now friends, family and volunteers are hosting a day of fundraising activities at Macclesfield’s Cricket Club on Sunday (April 27) to buy equipment for the day when courageous Alfie can finally come back home to the Crescent in Hurdsfield.

Alfie was transferred from Manchester Children’s Hospital to Macclesfield Hospital in early February, but has now returned to Manchester while he waits for an operation.

His mum, Bev Russon, said: “We are desperate to raise as much funds as possible and get as many people there on the day to support Alfie.

“There’s going to be loads to do – we have a sponsored 5km walk, a raffle, face painting, a bouncy castle, tombola, cake stalls, sweet stalls, Peppa Pig will be there and Rory from Macc Town is coming down to open the event.

“All of the money will be going on sensory equipment for Alfie and to make our garden a suitable place for him to enjoy when he finally gets home.”

The event will take place at the club, on Victoria Road, Macclesfield.

Walkers need to be at the club for 12.30pm to register and the walk itself starts at 1pm.

The funday will run from 1pm to 4pm.

If you would like to get involved you can turn up on the day or get in contact with the organisers through the Facebook page by searching ‘funday’ and ‘5k walk for Alfie’ on the site.
