Children learned about wartime rationing while celebrating the success of their school allotment.

The youngsters at Upton Priory Primary School dressed up in Second World War gear and heard stories about life as an evacuee and the ‘Dig for Victory’ campaign.

They then enjoyed a tea dance with homemade cakes from wartime recipes and music from the era.

The Dig for Victory event was a good reason to celebrate the school’s successful allotment, wildlife and gardening club which in two years has transformed a little-loved outdoor space into a thriving allotment, nature trail and garden with its own scarecrow and bird feeders.
