Stunning shots went on show this week at an exhibition showcasing some of Macclesfield’s best photography talent.

Macclesfield Camera Club opened its annual exhibition – which coincides with the club’s 60th anniversary year – at Macclesfield Library on Monday (April 14).

The club also recently received almost 100 entries for its 60th anniversary photographic competition, which was for amateurs and non-camera club members and was run jointly with the Macclesfield Express.

And among the happy faces in the audience for the launch were three very new club members; the top three winners of the competition who all won a year’s free membership to the club.

The winning entry, left, was ‘Hannah’ by Steve Thornhill, who also won first prize of £100. Second place with a prize of £50 was awarded to Anthony Gosling with his picture of an owl entitled ‘Waiting’. Third place, and a prize of £25, was awarded to Jim Ennis’s picture ‘Clints and Grykes’, taken in Malham, Yorkshire.

Stephen Coyne, vice president of Macclesfield Camera Club, said: “The exhibition is being judged by Adrian Lines, who commented on the high quality of the photographs.

“The competition was a fantastic success and showed what superb photographic talent there is in the area.

“Steve was delighted with his victory and especially pleased with the splendid spread of photographs in last week’s Express newspaper. He even brought Hannah along so that she could see her portrait on display at the library.

“Fortunately, Anthony did not bring his subject along with him but he is very enthusiastic about joining the club as he is keen to learn how to manipulate images digitally. Third placed Jim was also delighted with his success and with free membership of the club.”

The winning pictures are featured in the exhibition, which runs at the library, on Jordangate, Macclesfield, until Saturday, April 26.
