The family of Lance Corporal Jamie Webb – who died in Afghanistan – has received an Elizabeth Cross in his honour.

His mum and dad, Sue and Dave Webb, and his  brother Luke, met Prince Charles at Highgrove House in Gloucestershire to receive the medal, which is given to the families of soldiers killed in action.

The prince is the colonel-in-chief of Jamie’s Mercian Regiment.

The family had a private meeting with the prince, where they told him about Jamie, who was 24 when he died in March from wounds sustained in a Taliban attack on his patrol base in Helmand Province.

The former Wilmslow High School pupil was just weeks away from returning home.

Around 1,000 mourners attended his funeral at St Chad’s Parish Church in Handforth, where Jamie’s family live.

Brother Luke, 18, of  Aston Way, said he enjoyed speaking to Prince Charles about Jamie. He showed him the Facebook memorial page he has set up for his brother, which has attracted more than 36,500 fans.

Luke, who has undergone five operations for a serious heart condition, said: “It felt good to talk to Prince Charles about Jamie.

“He thought it was really sad and couldn’t express how sorry he was.

“He thought Jamie was very brave and understands how it feels, with two sons in the Forces.

“I was able to tell him what Jamie was like, that he had such a good sense of humour.”

Luke is also backing a plan by Coun Anthony Harrison, from Handforth Parish Council, to create a cenotaph in the village.

Luke said: “It would be somewhere for people to go to be proud of Jamie and our fallen heroes.

“He was a true hero and an amazing brother – I want the world to know.”
