The 65-year-old said: "It's a fantastic competition and loved by every player from the top league to the lower leagues. Outside of winning the top flight getting to Wembley is every player's dream. For non league games every round is like their cup final and that makes it really special.

"The FA Cup is an emotional experience for the players and the fans.

"Everyone aims to get into that magical third round when the minnows come up against the big clubs.

"Macclesfield are one game away from playing one of the top teams."

Joe said he speaks regularly to Macc Town fans at his local pub The Brocklehurst Arms.

He said: "Fans are really worried about what's going on at the club and its financial situation. I feel sad for them. Macc Town has an incredible history and passionate fans. They need to come together and take this opportunity to support the club."

Messages of support and encouragement have been pouring in for Macclesfield Town FC ahead of one of the biggest games in the club's history.

The Silkmen face Brackley Town at Moss Rose in the second round of the FA Cup on Saturday, December 7 at 3pm.

A win against the fellow non-league outfit brings with it a £27,000 prize and the chance of a lucrative third round march against any of the Premier League and Championship teams.

This cash injection will go some way to rousing the club from a financial nightmare that puts its very future in doubt.

Macclesfield Town is desperate to raise £300,000 to give the club a fighting chance to be around in its 140th year in 2014.

With that in mind, the Macclesfield Express is sending out an S.O.S calling on the community to ‘Support Our Silkmen’ and go to the game.

Over recent weeks this call to arms has been backed by dozens of readers, MP David Rutley and Manchester United legend Bryan Robson.

The latest Silkmen supporters to get on board with our campaign include rock band The Virginmarys.

Ally Dickaty, Danny Dolan and Matt Rose from Macclesfield rockers The Virginmarys have pledged to get down to the game.

Danny said: "The band are massive fans of the club. Matty and I used to go to see the games when we were young, in the days with Sammy Mcllroy.

"It was horrible seeing them drop out of the football league and now with all there financial problems."

"We'll definitely plan to get down there and cheer on the lads. If they can get through it will be massive and could lead to a game against some one like Man United which would be awesome."

Fans have been using Facebook and Twitters to show their support.

Manning Brown, @TheRealManningB, a football journalist in Melbourne, Australia, said: "All the best to @thesilkmen down from Australia. Help to raise awareness. For those in England, get to their FA cup tie, Dec 7 #sosmacc."

Lisa Hammond posted a picture of her husband Nick with has ticket to the game on our Facebook page.

She said: "Nick and I got tickets for the Brackley game. We are season ticket holders for the Silkmen forever."

Over the years the club has played a vital role in bringing money, publicity and prosperity to the town through their exposure in the press and on national TV.

If Macc Town are to survive, the club needs its fans more than ever.

Officials at the club said ticket sales have been 'brisk' but expect a rush in the final few days.

Tickets are on sale from the club office, either in person or over the phone on 01625 264686, online at www.mtfcdirect.co.uk and the tourist information kiosk at the Town Hall.

Silkmen celebrate a goal

The Road to Wembley so far.................

The Silkmen’s FA Cup run started on October 26 with the 7-0 thumping of Vauxhall Motors in the qualifying round.

The Silkmen put the skids under their Cheshire neighbours with two before half-time, from Danny Whitaker and Connor Jennings.

They hit top gear with five more in the second including one from Scott Boden and Scott Kay and a hat-trick from Danny Rowe.

The goalscoring frenzy continued in the first round match against League One’s Swinton, with a 4-0 win on November 9.

Connor Jennings scored twice, and there were goals for Scott Boden and Peter Winn.

It was the second year running the Silkmen dumped the Robins out of the FA Cup in front of 1,835 fans.
