IF the sound of military bands gladdens your heart, then march along to the MEN Arena tomorrow (Saturday) when the Manchester Tattoo celebrates its fifth anniversary.

This spectacular event features new display teams and bands, including the world-famous IMPS motorcycle display team.

These highly trained young people - some only five-years-old - offer a unique and exciting display. The revving of 40 engines leads to an awesome, billowing fire jump and then the suspense of their multiple motorcycle combination "cross-over" routine.

Back by popular demand will be the Queen's Colour Squadron, officially known as 63 Squadron Royal Air Force Regiment.

Their remarkable drill movement, executed without a word of command, requires the airmen to memorise upwards of 350 separate movements.

Another entertaining example of teamwork is the thrilling demonstration by the Manchester Field Gun teams hauling 12-pounder guns over a course of high walls and chasms, all against the clock.

Expect gymnastic displays and marching bands including the Lancastrian Brigade Band And Corps of Drums and the Pipes And Drums of the Scots Guards Association (Manchester).

There is even more musical entertainment from the ATC Corps Band and the Greater Manchester Police Band.

And as if all that wasn't enough to stir the blood, the big band sound of Andy Prior will ensure the whole event goes with a swing!
