ONE of Britain’s most admired actresses stars in a brand-new production of the compelling drama Crown Matrimonial.

Patricia Routledge is known to millions as snobby Hyacinth Bucket in TV’s Keeping Up Appearances, but she has a lengthy CV in theatre and film.

Royce Ryton’s fascinating play focuses on the crisis that faces the nation when King Edward VIII declares his deep love for Wallis Simpson.

Unswayed by the prospect of public scandal, family upheaval and even abdication, he insists he will marry the woman he loves.

The play, set in Marlborough House in 1936, offers a unique insight into the domestic life of the Royal Family and reveals how the affair affected the volatile relationship between Queen Mary and her son.

Tony Award nominee David Grindley directs a talented cast in the play, which runs from Monday to Saturday.
